DoCoMo announced on February 9, 2011 that the company has inked an agreement with Korean telecom operator KT on providing cross-border communications services using NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, according to a press release by DoCoMo. It is reported that the NFC services will include mobile payments, mass-transportation ticketing, and promotional coupons. The NFC services are scheduled to be launched in Japan and Korean separately by the end of 2012. It is projected that subscribers traveling between the two countries are able to access the services via NFC-compatible Android Smartphones.
